Ads in AI and How We Feel About it

At the 2026 Super Bowl, one of the biggest entertainment events of the year, the conversation moment that rippled across the tech world came not from a football play but from a commercial break where Anthropic aired ads that took aim at ChatGPT and its plans to introduce advertising inside the chatbot experience. These spots depicted an AI assistant suddenly pivoting into promotional mode even in the middle of a personal conversation, implicitly contrasting Anthropic’s own AI, Claude, which the company has publicly committed to keeping ad-free.

This moment was widely covered, with many reporting that the ad tagline highlighted the difference by saying “Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude.”

The choice to bring this debate onto one of the most watched stages in America is telling of how high the stakes have become for AI companies, and it is prompting developers, builders and users to think about what it means when the tools we talk to begin to show paid content inside those conversations.

OpenAI’s Shift to Advertising and What Users Will See

Shortly after Anthropic’s Super Bowl placement, OpenAI began testing advertisements inside ChatGPT for users on the Free and Go subscription tiers in the United States, marking a clear shift in how the platform will be funded and monetized moving forward. In an official release, OpenAI confirmed that these ads are clearly labeled as sponsored and visually separated from the AI’s answers and the company emphasized that the existence of those ads does not influence the chatbot’s responses. Using a simple prompt, we asked Quash to open Apple Maps, search for “coffee near me,” and select the first result. The flow executed successfully, validating that the same natural language–driven execution now works reliably on iOS as well.

This marks an important step toward extending Quash’s execution engine beyond Android and bringing consistent mobile testing workflows across platforms.

What Did We Ship?

Quash Playground

This week, we launched the Quash Playground, a lightweight way to experience how Quash works without installing anything.

The Playground lets you run up to three full tasks directly from the website, using real devices and the same execution flow as the product. To help users get started quickly, we’ve added sample prompts that show what Quash can do, while still allowing users to try their own flows.

Each Playground session runs for up to 30 minutes, giving enough time to explore intent-driven execution, device interactions and test results end to end.

GitHub announced that it’s adding support for both Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex AI agents directly into its platform, including in GitHub, GitHub Mobile and Visual Studio Code. Developers on Copilot Pro Plus or Enterprise can choose from multiple AI agents to help with coding tasks such as issue resolution and pull request management. This marks a practical step toward multi-agent AI workflows in developers’ everyday tools, letting teams pick the best model for each context and reducing context switching in coding environments.
