AI Nativity And The New Age Of Browsers

Everyone seems to be building an AI browser now, and that shift says … something.
Google integrated Gemini into Chrome in September. Perplexity released Comet in August. Firefox now allows users to choose between multiple chatbots, and its most recent update even includes Microsoft Copilot. Opera introduced its fully agentic Neon browser by the end of September, and Apple is quietly layering intelligence into Safari through its Apple Intelligence system. At the same time, Atlassian acquired The Browser Company, the creators of Arc, whose AI agent Dia was still in beta. The acquisition was about scale, but more importantly, it marked a shared belief that the browser is no longer just a window to the web—it’s becoming the stage where intelligence lives . And in the middle of all this, OpenAI launched Atlas, its own AI-native browser, built to blend reasoning directly into browsing.

In a way, browsers have stopped being passive entry points to the internet. They have started acting more like operating systems for AI, similar to places where reasoning and interaction happen in real time. This shift also changes how web applications might be built in the future. Developers will no longer design only for human users, but also for AI browsers that can interpret context, take actions, and navigate autonomously. The web, in that sense, could evolve into an ecosystem that serves both people and intelligent agents operating side by side. Our CEO, Ayush’s post sums it beautifully.

Inside the team too, a small poll revealed that people’s browser choices felt almost personal. Some preferred Arc for its workspace design, others stuck to Chrome out of habit, some people have gotten used to Perplexity's Comet and a few were already experimenting with Atlas. Our PM, Ayushi even said that she was waiting for Safari to “finish the agent part.”

From AI Features to AI Behavior

Until recently, AI in software mostly meant adding a chatbot or predictive layer, an assistant that could summarize, autocomplete, or answer questions. But browsers are not just hosting AI, they’re behaving like it. The browser isn’t waiting for a search; it’s interpreting context, remembering patterns, and sometimes acting on behalf of the user.

That’s the gap between software using AI and software thinking with AI.

This is where the idea of AI nativity comes in. AI nativity is not about software that uses AI, but about software born around AI logic. It is the difference between adding intelligence to an existing interface and building an interface that exists because of intelligence. When Chrome adds Gemini, it adapts. When Atlas is built around ChatGPT, it is native. AI-native software is structurally different. It interprets before it acts and it understands intent instead of waiting for instruction.

That difference is becoming the defining feature of how modern software is being built. Interfaces are no longer static layers between the user and the system. They have started to reason, to predict, and to act with autonomy. Tools are being designed with intelligence at their core, not as an accessory feature. The more this evolves, the more the experience of using software feels like collaboration rather than command.

At Quash, this shift is something we think about constantly. What AI did to a search engine, we are trying to do for QA. We are building AI-native QA, not a testing tool that uses AI, but a testing environment that thinks in actions. The mock-up of our engine was designed around that idea: you describe what needs to be tested, and the system interprets the intent and executes intelligently. It handles flows, pop-ups, and outcomes the way a person would, only faster and with perfect consistency. This is about designing a system that understands what they are trying to achieve.

The future of software depends on how deeply AI can be embedded into its foundation. We believe testing should evolve the same way, making it less about automating steps and more about reasoning through behavior. After all, building for this new world means learning to test like it too.

We put our execution engine to work on Astrotalk, one of the most popular astrology apps for personalized horoscopes and consultations. Using a simple natural language prompt, we asked Quash to open the app, head to the Daily Horoscope section, and scroll down to ensure the horoscope was displayed correctly. It then tapped the share button, selected the Messages app, and sent the horoscope to a contact named Hamza. When the app displayed an error saying attachments weren’t allowed, Quash removed the attachment, retried, and successfully sent the message. Finally, it tapped the shared link and verified that it redirected back to the Astrotalk app with the horoscope open.

Isolated and Sequential Execution of Suites

This week, we shipped a major update to Suites, introducing isolated and sequential execution modes for tasks. In sequential execution, tasks within a suite share memory, allowing the agent to retain context and continuity across runs. In isolated execution, each task runs independently with a clean state, ensuring no data or memory is shared between them. This gives teams more control over how their test suites are executed whether they want context-aware runs or fully independent task executions.
